IMU Junior Research Fellow Recruitment 2026 – Apply Online

Indian Maritime University (IMU), Chennai, has one Junior Research Fellow (JRF) post in a sponsored project funded by the Ministry of Port, Shipping and Waterways (MoPSW), Government of India, paying Rs. 37,000 + HRA in Years 1–2 and Rs. 42,000 + HRA in Year 3. The essential qualification is B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Ocean Engineering, Mechanical, Aerospace, Applied Mechanics, Computational Engineering, or allied fields. About the Project and the University

Indian Maritime University is a Central University under the Ministry of Ports, Shipping and Waterways, established by an Act of Parliament in 2008. Its headquarters are at East Coast Road, Uthandi, Sholinganallur (P.O), Chennai–600119.

The JRF post is for a sponsored research project titled "Design and Safety Evaluation of Carbon Fiber Composite Hull for Deep Sea Submersibles and Ocean Structures". The Principal Investigator is Dr. Tota Rakesh Kumar, Assistant Professor, Indian Maritime University.

Essential Qualification

B.E./B.Tech or M.E./M.Tech in Ocean Engineering, Mechanical, Aerospace, Applied Mechanics, Computational Engineering, or allied fields with a strong academic record.

Desired Qualification

• Strong fundamentals in Finite Element Methods (FEM).
• Hands-on experience writing sub-routines in ABAQUS.
• Hands-on experience on CFRP composite laminate modeling, fracture models, nonlinear buckling and collapse simulations in ABAQUS.

Age Limit and Relaxation

The age limit is not more than 35 years. The notice gives relaxation to OBC/SC/ST/PWD/Women category as per GOI norms, and age relaxation for highly deserving candidates. The date for counting age is not specified in the notice.

Pay and Tenure

Hostel accommodation may be provided on a chargeable basis; in such cases, HRA will not be admissible.

The project runs for 3 years. The JRF is initially posted for 6 months, and the posting is extendable depending on satisfactory performance of the candidate and availability of funds. The position is purely temporary and co-terminus with the project tenure.

The selected candidate will be given an opportunity to register for the Ph.D. program at IMU in accordance with university norms, when IMU officially releases the Ph.D. admission notification.

Selection and Interview
