Age Limit

The upper age limit for the Controller of Examination is 55 years as on 1 October 2026. Any relaxation is given as per the UGC guidelines and the rules of the regulatory bodies concerned.

Assistant Professor

• A Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point-scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned subject from an Indian University, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
• In addition, the candidate must have cleared the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by the UGC or the CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC, like SLET/SET. Candidates who have been awarded a PhD Degree under the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments are exempted from NET/SLET/SET.

Candidates who registered for the PhD before 11 July 2009 come under the rules of the institution that awarded the degree. They are exempt from NET/SLET/SET if all of these conditions are met:

1. The PhD was awarded in regular mode.
2. The thesis was evaluated by at least two external examiners.
3. An open PhD viva voce was held.
4. The candidate has published two research papers from the PhD work, at least one in a refereed journal.
5. The candidate has presented at least two papers based on the PhD work at conferences or seminars sponsored, funded or supported by the UGC / ICSSR / CSIR or a similar agency.

The Registrar or the Dean (Academic Affairs) of the university concerned must certify that these conditions are met. A PhD from a foreign university is governed by the UGC Regulations.

Controller of Examination

Essential qualification:

• A Master's degree with at least 55% marks or its equivalent grade.
• One of the following:
  • at least 15 years of experience as an Assistant Professor in Academic Level-11 and above, or 8 years of service in Academic Level-12 and above, including as an Associate Professor, along with experience in educational administration; or
  • comparable experience in a research establishment and/or other institutions of higher education; or
  • 15 years of administrative experience, of which 8 years must be as Deputy Registrar or an equivalent post.
• Working knowledge of computers and networking. The notice calls this mandatory.

Desirable: experience conducting or assisting with University/College/Institution examinations and other allied work at the executive level, and a record that justifies being trusted with confidential work.

Screening and Conditions

• A Screening Committee checks every application, whatever the category. Applications with wrong or missing information will be rejected outright, and incomplete applications will be summarily rejected.
• No TA/DA is paid for attending an interview or written test.
• Canvassing in any form will disqualify a candidate. Impersonation will be dealt with under the law.
• Applications are not accepted after the last date.
• The university may withdraw any advertised post at any time without giving a reason. It may also choose whether or not to fill the posts, and its decision is final.

Service Conditions

• The appointment stays purely temporary until confirmation, which comes after a probation period of at least one year. Probation may be extended if needed.
• Selected candidates must be physically and mentally fit. Before joining, they must produce a medical certificate signed by the Joint Director of Health Services of the district concerned or a Government Medical Officer. The university may also have its own doctor check the certificate.
• A good-conduct certificate from the head of the institution last attended or served is required, unless the candidate is an employee of this university.
• A No Court Case Certificate from the competent authority must be submitted at the time of joining.

• Proof of academic qualifications and publications
• Experience certificate showing the date of appointment, the period of appointment and the scale of pay / pay band and grade pay / pay level. It must be issued by the Registrar of the university or the Principal/Director of the college or institute. Certificates from a Head of Department or Dean are not accepted.
• Caste certificate (SC/ST(P)/ST(H)/OBC/MOBC) in the Government of Assam format, plus a valid current-year NCL certificate for OBC/MOBC candidates
• Disability certificate and income and assets certificate, where applicable
• For in-service candidates: an application sent through proper channel, or a No Objection Certificate from the appointing authority in the Annexure-I format
