The notice calls the number of vacancies tentative. The university may increase or decrease the number of posts at the time of selection.

CUJ Assistant Professor Eligibility 2026

Candidates must meet condition A or condition B below, and must also have the required specialisation.

Option A

• A Master's degree with 55% marks (or an equivalent grade in a point scale wherever the grading system is followed) in a concerned/relevant/allied subject from an Indian university, or an equivalent degree from an accredited foreign university.
• In addition, candidates must have cleared NET conducted by the UGC or the CSIR, or a similar test accredited by the UGC such as SLET/SET. Candidates who hold, or have held, a Ph.D. awarded under the UGC (Minimum Standards and Procedure for Award of M.Phil./Ph.D. Degree) Regulations, 2009 or 2016 and their amendments are exempt from NET/SLET/SET.

Candidates who registered for a Ph.D. before 11 July 2009 are also exempt from NET/SLET/SET, provided all of these conditions are met:

1. The Ph.D. was awarded in regular mode.
2. The thesis was evaluated by at least two external examiners.
3. An open Ph.D. viva voce was held.
4. The candidate has published two research papers from the Ph.D. work, at least one of them in a refereed journal.
5. The candidate has presented at least two papers based on the Ph.D. work at conferences or seminars sponsored, funded or supported by the UGC, ICSSR, CSIR or a similar agency.

The Registrar or the Dean (Academic Affairs) of the university concerned must certify that these conditions are met. NET/SLET/SET is also not required for Master's programmes in disciplines where the UGC, CSIR or a similar accredited test does not conduct NET/SLET/SET.

Option B

A Ph.D. from a foreign university or institution that has ranked among the top 500 in the world at any time in one of these rankings: QS (Quacquarelli Symonds), the Times Higher Education (THE), or the Academic Ranking of World Universities (ARWU) of Shanghai Jiao Tong University.

Specialisation / Relevant Discipline

• NET or Ph.D. in English
• Master's degree in English, English Literature, Linguistics, Film Studies, English Language & Literature, Communicative English or Translation Studies

Relaxation in Marks

• SC, ST, Differently-abled (physically and visually differently-abled) and OBC (non-creamy layer) candidates may get a 5% relaxation in marks at Graduate and Master's level. The relaxation applies to the qualifying marks only, without any grace marks.
• Ph.D. holders who completed their Master's degree before 19 September 1991 may get a 5% relaxation, from 55% to 50%.
• A grade that a recognised university treats as equivalent to 55% is also accepted.

Salary and Service Conditions

• The engagement is purely temporary. The consolidated remuneration is Rs. 57,700/- (Rupees fifty seven thousand seven hundred only) a month.
• The engaged candidate does not get residential accommodation, official transport, leave encashment or any other allowance or facility that regular employees receive.
• The candidate gets 8 days of leave a year on a pro-rata basis.
• The engagement is initially for one semester, or as the university requires. It may be extended depending on the university's needs and the incumbent's performance.

Selection Process

Selection is by walk-in interview, which is open only to candidates who have registered online.

No TA/DA or accommodation is provided for attending the interview. CUJ may cancel or modify the interview of any department without giving a reason.

1. Register through the online registration form (Google Form) by 5.00 p.m. on 3 November 2026.
2. Download the application form from the university website, www.cuj.ac.in, and fill it in.
3. Report to the venue between 9.30 a.m. and 10.30 a.m. on 5 November 2026, carrying the documents listed below.

Documents to Carry

• Bio-data
• All original documents, plus a self-attested photocopy of each
• Two colour photographs
• Ph.D. holders under the 2009/2016 UGC Regulations: a certificate from the awarding university in the Annexure-I format
• Candidates who registered for a Ph.D. before 11 July 2009: a certificate in the Annexure-II format
• SC/ST candidates: a caste certificate in the Annexure-III format. OBC candidates: a certificate in the Annexure-IV format.
• Candidates in the PH category: a medical certificate from the competent authority

Points for Reserved-Category Candidates

• OBC candidates must bring a valid caste certificate for the current financial year in the Government of India proforma. It must state that they do not belong to the creamy layer under DoPT OM No. 36012/22/93-Estt. (SCT) dated 08.09.1993. Details are on www.ncbc.nic.in. Without this certificate, a candidate will not be allowed to attend the interview.
• The caste name, including its spelling, must match the Central Government list exactly. A certificate with any variation will not be accepted.
• An OBC claim is judged by the State to which the candidate's father originally belongs.

Other Conditions

• If a mistake in the selection process comes to light at any stage, even after the engagement letter is issued or after joining, the university may modify, withdraw or cancel any communication to the candidate.
• Any legal dispute falls only under the jurisdiction of the Courts of Ranchi.
• Any corrigendum or addendum will be published only on the university website.
