One temporary Junior Research Fellow (JRF) post is open in the Department of Civil Engineering, National Institute of Technology Silchar (NIT Silchar), Assam, under an ANRF, Govt. of India sponsored project on geothermal reservoir rocks and hot-spring fluid flow in the Tawang region of Arunachal Pradesh. About NIT Silchar and the Project

National Institute of Technology Silchar is an Institute of National Importance in Silchar, Assam. The JRF will work in its Department of Civil Engineering under Principal Investigator Dr. Dinesh P. The notice describes the project as follows: it studies the strength and permeability of geothermal rocks under different heat treatments using laboratory tests, and numerical models will be developed to understand heat, fluid flow, rock behaviour, and possible earthquakes caused by water and CO₂ injection.

Essential Qualification

• A B.E./B.Tech. or equivalent degree in Civil, Mechanical, or Chemical Engineering with GATE qualification, OR
• An M.E./M.Tech./M.Sc./M.Sc Tech. degree in Civil, Mechanical, Chemical Engineering, Earth Science, or Geology.

GATE/NET-qualified candidates will be given preference.

Desirable Experience

• Basic knowledge in geothermal energy.
• Prior knowledge of geomechanical tests of rock (i.e. Young's modulus, Poisson's ratio, fracture toughness and others); knowledge of computational geomechanics such as FEM is advantageous but not mandatory.

Age Limit

The age limit is 35 years, counted on the last date of advertisement. The notice adds that relaxation in the age limit will be permitted based on experience and qualification, and that relaxation on qualification and age is as per Govt. of India Rules. The application form asks for age as on the last date of application.

Pay and Tenure

• The pay is Rs. 37000/- per month.
• HRA @10% is paid if Institute accommodation is not provided.
• The post is temporary, for two years or till completion of the project, whichever is earlier.
• Extension of the selected candidate would be based on a performance review every 12 months.
• The selected candidate shall have to sign an agreement at the time of joining.
• All terms and conditions for this recruitment will be as per the guidelines of the sponsoring agency (ANRF) and NIT Silchar.
