The Institute of Physics (IoP), Bhubaneswar, an autonomous grant-in-aid research institution under the administrative control of the Department of Atomic Energy (DAE), Government of India, is a premier research institution engaged in research in frontier areas of theoretical and experimental physics.

Posts, Eligibility and Pay

Essential Qualification

• B.Sc. in Electronics with minimum 60% marks; OR
• Diploma in Electronics / Electronics & Instrumentation / Electrical & Electronics Engineering of three years duration after SSC/10th Standard, with minimum 60% marks.

Desirable Qualification and Experience

Relevant post-qualification experience in one or more of the following areas will be desirable: Electronics and instrumentation; analog/digital electronics; detector electronics; data acquisition and control systems; FPGA/microcontroller-based systems; computer interfacing; LabVIEW or similar instrumentation/control software; semiconductor devices and detectors; power supplies; vacuum/accelerator instrumentation; and troubleshooting, repair and maintenance of electronic equipment. Experience in a research laboratory, accelerator/ion-beam facility or similar scientific/technical environment will be an added advantage.

Age Limit

18-30 years. Eligibility with respect to age, educational qualification and experience shall be determined as on the last date for receipt of application (30/11/2026).

Age Relaxation

Age relaxation shall be admissible to eligible categories and internal candidates, wherever applicable, as per Government of India/DAE rules, as amended from time to time.

IoP Scientific Assistant-B (Electronics) Job Description

• The incumbent will be primarily associated with the Ion Beam Laboratory (IBL) and will provide electronics and instrumentation support for its accelerator and experimental facilities.
• Development, assembly, testing and maintenance of analog/digital electronics, instrumentation, power supplies and control systems.
• Development and integration of electronics for detectors, experimental setups, data-acquisition and computer-controlled instrumentation.
• FPGA/microcontroller programming and interfacing, wherever required.
• Troubleshooting, fault diagnosis, repair and preventive maintenance of electronic and instrumentation equipment.
• Operation, maintenance and upgrading of electronics and instrumentation associated with the Ion Beam Laboratory and other experimental facilities.
• Providing electronics/instrumentation support, including repair and maintenance, to other experimental laboratories of the Institute as required.
• Assisting faculty members, scientific/technical staff and students in the development, installation and operation of experimental systems.
• Maintaining appropriate technical documentation, equipment records, spares and inventory related to assigned systems.
• The post involves hands-on scientific and technical work. The selected candidate may be required to work in the Ion Beam Laboratory, other experimental laboratories and associated service areas and, depending upon operational requirements, beyond normal working hours/shifts.
• Any other scientific/technical duties assigned by the Competent Authority according to the requirements of the Institute.

Selection Process

Direct Recruitment. The selection process shall comprise a written examination and/or screening followed by a Skill/Trade Test and/or interview, as decided by the Institute in accordance with the applicable Recruitment Rules.

The assessment may include fundamentals of electronics and instrumentation, analog and digital electronics, electronic devices and circuits, measurement and instrumentation, data acquisition and control, computer interfacing, electronic system development, and practical troubleshooting of electronic equipment.
